Perseid
"WOW! Now that would be something to see,"
I thought to myself. But then the fact that live in a metropolis where city lights obscure just about every star, coupled with the fact that even after sunset the temperature would still be over 90, and add to that mosquitoes, and to that all the other things I really need to do, my desire to see the phenomenon quickly faded.
"Then He took him outside and said, "Look at the sky. Count the stars. Can you do it? Count your descendants! Your going to have a big family..." Genesis 15:5 The Message
The Perseid Meteor shower has come and gone, but another phenomenon really far more significant is about to begin! Today, my fellow co-laborer in the Harvest Fields of Tanzania and I set off on a grand and spectacular adventure. And though we are traveling to the land known for its lions, and tigers, zebras, and giraffes, we won't be seeing any of those. We are going to the ends of the earth to make an impact for the Kingdom of the Living God; it's the Kingdom that is coming not falling from the night sky.
We'll spend the next 24 hours flying, take a short rest in the capital city of Dar es Salaam, and then travel by car 8 hours to the northern region of Tanga. It is a long way but an invaluable mission to disciple men and women hungry for the Word and training they can use to shape the next generation of children and young adults.
How is this a phenomenon greater than a meteor shower? I can say with confidence you don't take note of when you mow the lawn, such is regularity of the showers of stars falling for the God of the universe. BUT that same magnificent Creator has invited us to participate in the moving of hearts, minds and souls for eternity in Korogwe and Handeni, Tanzania, and the Bible reminds me He is taking notes!
